Reader’s guide

Twelve pages on this site, two sentences each

Not blog posts — the working guides. Listed in the order a first trip actually happens.

  1. First-Timer Kit — Visa, SIM, Alipay with a foreign card, cash and where to pray, sorted before the plane lands. Read this one on the flight; the ten phrases at the bottom are the ones you will actually use.
  2. How to Get to Yiwu — Shanghai, Hangzhou and Guangzhou compared: flights into YIW versus the high-speed train, and how to buy a rail ticket with a foreign passport. The Xiaoshan-airport coach timetable (¥72, about two hours) is here too.
  3. Airport (YIW) → Market — Taxi, Didi or bus 102 from the terminal, with the road-distance fare estimate and the driver card. Ignore anyone who approaches you inside arrivals; the rank is outside.
  4. Railway Station → International Trade City — Since July 2026 the metro runs from the station to a stop named International Trade City for ¥2–3. Which exit, how the ticket machine works, and why the station is where visitors get overcharged by taxi.
  5. Taxis & Didi — The official meter tariff, the four overcharging tricks visitors describe, Didi with a foreign card, and the printable pack of 83 driver cards. If you read one transport page, read this.
  6. Where to Stay — Thirteen hotels visitors actually name, with Trip.com facts on deposits, foreign cards, breakfast and halal options, and the district logic for choosing. Pick the district you work in first, then the hotel.
  7. Halal Food in Yiwu — The hub: four halal tiers explained, the areas where kitchens cluster, and the quick-decision table for tonight. Every restaurant on the site is one click from here.
  8. Exotic Street (Chouzhou North Road) — Sultan, Beyti, Bosphorus, Sinbad and thirty-odd Turkish, Yemeni, Syrian and Afghan kitchens between No. 129 and No. 590, with queue tactics. Busiest after 20:00 and right after Friday prayer.
  9. Halal Chinese Food — Lanzhou noodles, Xinjiang laghman and Hui banquet rooms, the kitchens where local Muslims eat rather than the tourist street. Nineteen of them carry Amap’s official halal-restaurant category.
  10. Yiwu Mosque & Prayer Times — Live prayer times calculated for the mosque’s coordinates, Jummah at about 13:15 by visitor reports, directions and the Friday food stalls at the gate. Women’s hall and wudu facilities noted.
  11. Where Muslims Hang Out — Shisha lounges, 24-hour Arab cafés for the football, Turkish barbers, five-a-side pitches and the three-step Friday route. Each card says whether alcohol is served or unchecked.
  12. Market Visitor Guide — Six districts, what each floor sells, opening hours, the 2026 New Year closure and the downloadable district map. Prayer rooms inside the market are not yet confirmed by any source; the page says so.

Pages that change with the calendar

  • Ramadan in Yiwu — Ramadan 1448 is expected from 8 February 2027, two days after Chinese New Year; iftar on Exotic Street, Taraweeh after Isha, and why the market closure matters that year.
  • Christmas Market — District 1, floors 3 and 4; order-taking peaks in spring, shipping in summer; whether you can buy a single bauble.
  • Night Market — Santing Road from 18:00, Duantou for halal stalls, what a ¥1 pan-fried bun and a ¥6 hu-la-tang look like.
  • Day Trips — Fotang, Hengdian, Shuanglin, Jinhua, West Lake and Wuzhen with road distances, fares and the halal-food problem solved for each.
