Staying for weeks or months? Apartment hotels with kitchens, the residential blocks where foreign traders actually rent, what a month costs on the listing sites, the 24-hour police registration rule (now online in Zhejiang), and which blocks put a halal kitchen downstairs.
Deposit figures for hotels come from Trip.com policies read 2026-09-22; lease customs are the standard Zhejiang practice and vary by landlord.
The averages come from the Anjuke (安居客) Yiwu rent index read on 22 September 2026 (the page does not state its reference month); individual listings the same week showed a two-bedroom at 稠州北路 1473 号 for ¥1,400 and a one-bedroom near Binwang Road for ¥1,000 on 58.com. Rents near the market and on Exotic Street run above the city average; blocks in Jiangdong and beyond the river below it. Utilities (water, electricity, gas, broadband) are on top and paid through Alipay; furnished flats are the norm for foreign tenants. What we have not done yet: rented one ourselves — every figure here is a listing price, not a signed lease. Agents (中介) charge half to one month’s rent; the market’s foreign-trade service centre and your supplier can often introduce a landlord without one.
Any licensed hotel scans your passport at check-in and files the registration; you do nothing. This is why some small hotels ‘cannot take foreigners’ — they lack the licence.
China’s Exit-Entry law requires foreigners living outside hotels to register with the local police within 24 hours of moving in (and again after any trip abroad). The landlord can do it for you, but the fine for not doing it is yours.
The National Immigration Administration opened online registration for non-hotel stays in seven provinces including Zhejiang: the NIA government-service website, the 移民局 12367 app, or its WeChat / Alipay mini-programs. You need to complete identity verification in the app first, then enter the lease address and landlord details. Source: NIA notice, 20 March 2026 (read 2026-09-22).
The local police station (派出所) for your block, with passport, visa or residence permit, the lease and the landlord’s ID copy; some Yiwu stations have an English-speaking desk on weekdays. Keep the registration slip — hotels, SIM shops and banks ask for it.
Long stays live or die on breakfast and the 21:00 meal. Three blocks have it solved: Exotic Street (Sultan and Sinbad both serve breakfast; the Yemeni rooms and the 24-hour cafés cover late nights), Futian behind District 1 (the halal row plus a Lanzhou counter inside the market), and Nianxi / Wu’ai Road (the Xinjiang street: Talaiti’s nang and pulao, Yunnan Renjia’s halal kitchen, cheap and open late). The Global Digital Trade Centre towers are the exception — good rooms, few kitchens; count on the metro. For weekly shopping, the halal butcher at Jiangbin West Road 121 opposite the mosque and the Arab groceries on Chouzhou North Road stock lamb, dates and spices; Chinese supermarkets mark 清真 on packaged meat but not on the counters. Register within 24 hours — online via the 移民局 12367 app in Zhejiang since March 2026, or at the local police station. Hotels do it automatically; landlords often do not.
Monthly rates are negotiable in Chinese, and a supplier’s introduction beats an agent. Ask us through the contact form if you want help asking.
Yes, with a passport, a valid visa or residence permit and a lease; you must register your address with the local police within 24 hours of moving in — online in Zhejiang since March 2026, or at the police station.
Many apartment hotels and some business hotels offer monthly rates on request; ask at the desk in Chinese or through your supplier. We record what we are quoted with the date once we have asked ourselves.
Listing-site averages read in September 2026: about ¥899 a month for a one-bedroom and ¥2,380 for a two-bedroom across the city; blocks next to the market and Exotic Street run higher, Jiangdong lower.
Exotic Street (Chouzhou North Road × Binwang), the Futian blocks behind District 1, and the Nianxi / Wu’ai Road Xinjiang street all have halal kitchens open early and late; the District 6 towers do not.
